June 22, 2918 – Team White Dahlia starts their season off with a win and Team RDUTennis takes over 1st place with its win at Seven Oaks Swim & Racquet Club last night. As usual, Seven Oaks turned out a big crowd to enjoy the first Raleigh Pro League tennis double match of the season and the party lasted well past the end of the matches.
Team Brier Creek Orthodontics vs Team White Dahlia
Team White Dahlia fielded a strong team for their season opener featuring Seven Oak’s Tennis Co-Directors Kaitlin Bisplinghoff and Paul-Henri Arrigoni. Taking the Men’s 2 court, Team WD’s Jas Schmitt and Will Suk won over Chris Fletcher and David Chermak 6-3 7-5 to put the first point on the boards. Team BCO’s Erin Faulkner and Seven Oaks’ IB Ilesamni outlasted Bisplinghoff and Doug Ormsby 6-1 3-6 10-4 on the Mixed court to tie the match at 1-all. Team WD went up 2-1 as Robert Lightbourn and Arrigoni bested Team BCO’s Will Plyler and Tom Eklund 6-3 6-4 on the Men’s 1 court. Team WD sealed the victory when Sandhya Nagaraj and Kelly Riely won a marathon match over Team BCO’s Stacie Luders and Jenny Green 6-3 2-6 12-10 on the Women’s court giving Team WD the 3-1 team victory.
Team RDUTennis vs Team Wake Orthopaedics
In a match featuring the two league leaders, Team RDUTennis pulled off some critical court wins to take the team match and move to 1st place in the league. Team WO took the early lead as Courtney Broadstone and Kris McGrath cruised to a win over Team RDU’s Chloe Smith and Liz Speicher 6-0 6-1 on the Women’s court. Team RDU came back to tie the match at 1-all as Jon Davis and Cris James played strong tennis to win over Team WO’s Ben Wagland and Seven Oaks’ Gani Adelekan 6-3 6-1 on the Men’s 1 court. Team RDU took a critical win on the Men’s 2 court as Jay Lewandowski and Marko Zivkovic defeated Team WO’s Justin Roberson and Glen Kitner 6-4 6-4. With Team RDU up 2-1, all eyes turned to the Mixed court to see if Team WO could force a 2-2 tie and take the match into a Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak. Team RDU’s Joanna Nalborska and Brian Rosenthal won the 1st set over Team WO’s Liz Perkins and Howard Huang 6-3, but Perkins/Huang came back to take the 2nd set 7-5 forcing a 3rd set tie break. Both teams battled hard in a tiebreak that was close from start to the finish. Late in the tiebreak, it seemed most points were being won with down the line shots at the end of long rallies. Nalborska/Rosenthal gutted it out to take the tiebreak 12-10 and seal the team win for Team RDU 3-1.
It was just another night of exciting tennis for a great crowd to enjoy at Seven Oaks.
