June 8, 2018 – Team Wake Orthopaedics starts the 2018 Raleigh Pro League Season with a 4-0 win over Team Brier Creek Orthodontics. The win did not come easy as two of the four courts went to 3rd set tiebreaks. Team Wake Ortho went up 2-0 as Amanda Janda and Cameron Rosenow won the Mixed Court 6-2 6-2 and Liz Perkins and Courtney Broadstone won the Women’s court 6-1 6-2. On the Men’s #2 court, Team Brier Creek Ortho’s David Chermak and IB Ilesamni fought back to win the 2nd set and force a 3rd set tiebreak, but Team Wake Ortho’s Glen Kitner and Justin Roberson were too tough, taking the tiebreak 10-3 to seal the team victory for Team Wake Ortho.
In a 2 1/2 hour match on the Men’s #1 court, Team Brier Creek Ortho’s Christian Welte and Tom Eklund won the first set 7-6, but Team Wake Ortho’s Ben Wagland and Chase Helpingstine flipped it to win the 2nd set 7-6. Wagland/Helpingstine battled to take an early lead and win the 3rd set tiebreak 10-6 finishing the sweep for Team Wake Ortho.
In the first match of the season and first ever match at North Ridge Country Club, fans were treated to some awesome tennis and a great evening thanks to North Ridge’s hospitality.
