Team Wake Orthopaedics and Team Alfred Williams & Company Win at Cary Tennis Park

July 21, 2017 – Another hot night of Raleigh Pro League Tennis, both on and off the courts, as Team Wake Orthopaedics maintains their undefeated status and Team Alfred Williams & Company gets their first win of the season.  200+ were on hand at the Cary Tennis Park to watch the action, many of which were participating in Western Wake Tennis Association’s Summer Sizzle Adult Tournament.  Between the 8 courts of RPL tennis played, 4 went into 3rd set tiebreak’s and one match was decided by a Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak.

Team Alfred Williams & Company picked up their first win by taking the Men’s #1, Men’s #2 (by default), and Mixed Courts.  The Men’s #1 court was one of the best of the season as Team AWC’s Paul Goode and Phillip Faulkner battled it out with Team WD’s William Noblitt and Doug Ormsby in a match that was close from start to finish and finally won by Goode/Faulkner in a 3rd set tiebreak 10-8.   Brother and sister Henriette Williams-Alexander and Judson Williams teamed up for AWC to win the Mixed court with some solid tennis.  Big thanks to Rohan Chandrasekhar who stepped in to play with his father Praveen in an Exhibition match on the Men’s #2 court.

Team Wake Orthopaedics continued their winning ways, but it took a dramatic Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak to clinch the victory over Team Mosquito Authority.  Jon Janda and Jas Schmitt won the Men’s #1 court for Team WO and Liz Perkins and Courtney Nagle held on to win the Ladies court in a 3rd set tiebreak for Team WO.  Meghan Coomes and Thomas Johnson took the Mixed court for Team MA after dropping the first set and coming back to win in a 3rd set tiebreak.  In the last match playing, Team MA’s Sean Ferreira and David Chermak held on to win the Men’s #2 court in a tight match with a 2nd set tiebreak to force the Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak.

Nagle and Schmitt were selected to represent Team Wake Orthopaedics and Coomes and Ferreira were selected for Team Mosquito Authority in the Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak.  Nagle/Schmitt jumped out to an early lead and looked like they would win the tiebreak easily as they took a 9-2 advantage.  But, Coomes/Ferreira were not going down like that and battled back to tie it up at 9-9.  All spectators had moved to this court and watched as Nagle/Schmitt took 3 of the last 4 points to win 12-10 and keep Team WO’s winning streak going.

Great tennis action, 90+ temperatures, the Summer Sizzle… it really was a hot night of tennis!
