Team Wake Orthopaedics and Team Alfred Williams & Company to Play for Championship

August 18, 2017 – Team Wake Orthopaedics and Team Alfred Williams & Company will play for the 2017 Raleigh Pro League Championship.  Both teams turned in solid performances in the Playoffs in an evening of exciting tennis action.  A large crowd of 250+ spectators and fans were on hand at North Hills Club to cheer for their favorite teams and players.

Team Wake Orthopaedics kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 5-0 victory over Team Brier Creek Orthodontics.  The match was not as one-sided as the score would seem.  Three of the courts were very close and could have gone either way, but Team Wake Ortho showed why they are undefeated by pulling out the wins on close courts as they have done all season.

Men’s #1:  Schmitt/Janda (WO) def. Polasek/Adelekan (BCO)  6-7  6-2  10-5
Men’s #2:  Roberson/Kitner (WO) def. Bennett/Ilesamni (BCO)  6-1  6-2
Women’s:  McGrath/Nagle (WO) def. Gallas/Kepler (BCO)  7-6  6-4
Mixed:  Perkins/Pelegrino (WO) def. Choo/Velazquez (BCO)  6-4  3-6  10-6

In the other match of the evening, Team Alfred Williams & Company needed a Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak to get the victory over Team Mosquito Authority.  The Skeeters forced the deciding Tiebreak with a gutsy win by Patriek Wolterbeek and David Chermak over Team AWC’s Judson Williams and Paul Goode on the Men’s #1 court.  Goode then teamed up with Henriette Alexander-Williams to win the Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak over Wolterbeek and Martina Somaono 10-7 to advance Team Alfred Williams & Company to the Championship match.  Not bad for Team AWC’s first season in the league.

Men’s #1:  Wolterbeek/Chermak (MA) def. Williams/Goode (AWC)  1-6  7-6  10-7
Men’s #2:  Fadool/Mozur (AWC) def. Ferreira/Arrigoni (MA)  3-6  7-5  13-11

The evening was everything you would expect from a Raleigh Pro League Playoff.  All teams battled hard and left it all on the courts.  Congratulations to Team Mosquito Authority and Team Brier Creek Orthodontics for great seasons and treating us to lots of exciting tennis.
