Team Mosquito Authority Pulls Out Win Over Team Brier Creek Orthodontics

Team Mosquito Authority’s Riely & Thedossiou in action

June 21, 2019 – It only took a court tiebreak and Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak for Team Mosquito Authority to start their season off with a win over Team Brier Creek Orthodontics. Lots of great tennis was on display at Seven Oaks Swim & Racquet Club as the Raleigh Pro League presented by SmartAthlete Physiotherapy swung into week 2.

Mosquito Authority took the first team point as Michael Ogden and Paul-Henri Arrigoni defeated BCO’s Tom Eklund and Michael Polasek 6-1 6-4 on the Men’s 1 court. But BCO quickly evened the score at 1-all as Kristen Kepler and Chris Fletcher won on the Mixed court 6-3 6-3 over Mosquito Authority’s Mia Bobrowski and Shaun Romisher. Meanwhile on the Men’s 2 court, the teams split sets and went into a 3rd set tiebreak. Point for point, the teams battled it out until Team Mosquito Authority’s Jas Schmitt and Brian Smith pulled away with the last 4 points to win 10-8 over BCO’s Jose Velazquez and Doug Ormsby.

All eyes turned to the Women’s court where Team BCO’s Jenny Green and Kaitlin Bisplinghoff took the 1st set 7-6 and Mosquito Authority’s Alix Theodossiou and Kelly Riely won the second 6-3 to send the court into a 3rd set tiebreak. Green/Bisplinghoff proved too tough with scrappy play and won the tiebreak 10-3 to bring the team scores to 2-2.

Mosquito Authority selected Theodossiou and Ogden to represent them in the Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak and Team BCO selected Green and Fletcher. Theodossiou/Ogden got off to a strong start and quickly went up 5-0, but Green/Fletcher started hitting their marks and battled back to tie it up at 7-all. The teams traded points to get to 8-all before league newcomers Theodossiou/Ogden took the last 2 points to win 10-8 and seal the victory for Team Mosquito Authority.

Not a bad day day for Michael Ogden for his debut in the Raleigh Pro League, a Men’s 1 win, winning the Captain’s Choice to get his team the win and earlier in the day being named to the All-ACC Academic Team.

Can’t wait for more action next week.
