August 9, 2019 – Team Brier Creek Orthodontics put together their most impressive performance of the season to the delight of their home fans to end the regular season. It would not be an easy victory as they seldom are in the Raleigh Pro League, but Team BCO fought on every court to get the win over Home Team Greer in a Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak 3-2.
Home Team Greer won the first team point when Sandhya Nagaraj and Carlos Garcia won on the Mixed court 6-4 6-4 over Team BCO’s Ginny Brodd and Quentin Guichard. Finishing soon after the Mixed court, Team BCO’s Patrick Longest and Jose Velazquez started very strong and won the Men’s 2 court 6-2 7-5 over HTG’s Max Desmars and Brent Bennett to even the team score at 1-all. Men’s 1 played on the featured court and what a battle this turned out to be. Home Team Greer’s Dan McCain and Ramsey Smith won the 1st set 7-5, but Team BCO’s Doug Ormsby and Chris Fletcher came back strong to take the 2nd set 6-3 and force a 3rd set tiebreak. Ormsby/Fletcher came out strong and took the early lead, but McCain/Smith finally got traction and came back to even the score at 8-all. The teams traded points until Ormsby/Fletcher were able to get 2 in a row and take the tiebreak 12-10. This gave Team BCO a 2-1 advantage in team points.
All attention turned to the Women’s court, where Home Team Greer’s Nena Day And Heather Waters had just split sets with Team Brier Creek Ortho’s Kaitlin Bisplinghoff and Kristen Kepler and were starting their own 3rd set tiebreak. Day/Waters cruised in the 1st set to take it 6-1, but Bisplinhoff/Kepler fought back and won the 2nd set in a tiebreak. Both teams played well in the 3rd set tiebreak, but Day/Waters took the momentum back and won 10-6 to tie the team match at 2-2 and force a Captains Choice Super-Tiebreak to decide the team winner.
Team BCO selected Kristen Kepler and Chris Fletcher and Home Team Greer selected Nena Day and Dan McCain to play the Captain’s Choice Super-Tiebreak. Kepler/Fletcher jumped out to an early lead and continued strong with great shot making to win the tiebreak 10-5 and give Team Brier Creek Ortho the team win 3-2.
It was an impressive win by Team Brier Creek Orthodontics, but not enough to get them a spot in the playoffs coming up just 2 team points from being able to move ahead of Team Mosquito Authority. The team competed well all season and definitely treated all Raleigh Pro League fans to some great tennis.
Home Team Greer moved into a 2nd seeding for the Playoffs and will face #3 seed Team Wake Orthopaedics in a rematch of the season opener. Number 1 seed Team RDUTennis will play #4 seed Team Mosquito Authority.
