June 14, 2019 – There could not have been a more perfect Friday night for tennis in Raleigh and Home Team Greer took full advantage to grab a 3-1 win over defending champions Team Wake Orthopaedics in front of a home crowd of 220+ enthusiastic tennis fans.
The Raleigh Racquet Club showed off their new 3-court complex and viewing deck and the players did not disappoint as they christened the new facilities with some great tennis.
Team Wake Ortho took the first team point as the seasoned doubles team of Justin Roberson and Glen Kitner won the Men’s 2 court 6-3 6-2 over HTG’s Carlos Garcia and Dan McCain. HTG evened the team score at 1-all, as Sandhya Nagaraj and Brent Bennett came back from dropping the first set to win in a 3-set tiebreak over Wake Ortho’s Kris McGrath and Cameron Rosenow on the Mixed court 3-6 6-4 10-4.
Finishing soon after the Mixed court, HTG’s Nena Day and Kim Ezzo gave their team a 2-1 lead by besting Team Wake Ortho’s Liz Perkins and Caylan Ashworth on the Women’s court 3-6 6-3 10-8 in what may have been the best match of the evening.
All eyes turned to the Men’s 1 court where HTG’s Paul Goode and Ramsey Smith had battled to win a tight first set over Team Wake Ortho’s Ben Wagland and Sam Williams and were up 6-5 in the second. Wagland/Williams held serve to force a tiebreak, but Goode/Smith showed their pedigree and battled to take the tiebreak and win the court 7-5 7-6 sealing the victory for Home Team Greer.
A great start to the season with a great showing at the Raleigh Racquet Club. Can’t wait for next week.
