June 15, 2018 – It was the Raleigh Pro League’s first match at the NC State University Club and Team RDUTennis’ first match in the league and they did not disappoint the fans. It was appropriate for this match to be played at the UClub since the line-ups included NC State Men’s Tennis Kyle Spencer, NC State Men’s Tennis Asst Coach Cris James and 6 former Wolfpack players.
Team RDUTennis got on the board early as Joanna Nalborska and Brian Rosenthal rolled on the Mixed court defeating Team Mosquito Authority’s Melissa Minniti and Michael Oladele 6-0 6-0. Nerves were obviously not a factor for league newcomer Nalborska. Team RDUTennis’ Jonathan Stokke and Cris James put the next point on the board by defeating Kyle Spencer and Sean Ferriera on the Men’s #1 court 6-3 6-2 giving Team RDUTennis a 2-0 lead. The Ladies doubles team of Tessie Choo and Chloe Smith sealed the victory for TeamRDUTennis by besting Team Mosquito Authority’s Meghan Coomes and Mia Bobrowski 2-6 6-3 11-9 in an exciting match that featured lots and lots of hard-hitting ground strokes. On the Men’s #2 court, Team Mosquito Authority finished the evening with a court win as Shaun Romisher and Brian Smith, after dropping a close 1st set, came back to win in a 3rd set tiebreak over Jon Davis and Will Rollinson 6-7 6-4 10-8.
The members of the UClub and local tennis fans were treated to a night of fun tennis as the club did a great job hosting their first match. The Raleigh Pro League looks forward to playing there again next season.
